On Friday from O.co Coliseum, the Boston Red Sox and the Oakland Athletics will be continuing their MLB series.
In Thursday’s opener, the A’s scored three runs in the first and fourth innings on the way to an 8-3 win.
USA TODAY Sports
For Friday’s game, the Red Sox will be rolling out lefty Chris Sale. In his 58.2 innings and 4-2 record this year, Sale has a 2.15 ERA with 85 strikeouts and 13 BBs.
Boston has some solid hitters this year. Heading into this series, Xander Bogaerts brought 46 hits, 20 runs and 12 RBI, while Mookie Betts had 43 hits, 22 runs and 27 RBI to his credit. Betts put up a hit and a run on Thursday, while Bogaerts came up empty 0-for-3.
Over on the A’s side, they’ll be trotting out RHP Kendall Graveman on Friday. In his 41.0 innings and 2-2 record this year, Graveman has a 3.95 ERA with 27 Ks.
It’s not too hard to find the key hitters in the Oakland lineup. Ryon Healy brought 38 hits, 15 runs and 16 RBI into this series, while Jed Lowrie brought 38 htis, 22 runs and nine RBI. On Thursday, Healy and Lowrie combined for three hits, two RBI and two runs.
The Red Sox are 4-1 in their last five game twos of a series, and 1-6 in their last seven Friday games. Boston is also 5-1 in Sale’s last six starts, and 4-1 in Sale’s last starts during game two of a series.
Meanwhile, the A’s are 4-0 in their last four home games versus a left-handed starter, and 16-37 in their last 53 Friday games. Oakland is also 4-0 in Graveman’s last four starts with four days’ rest, and 1-4 in Graveman’s last five Friday starts.
Sale has been great this year, so much so that seven earned in his last two starts over 13 innings seems excessive. He’s been able to pitch deep into games this year, though, and that has really helped Boston. As for Graveman, he had a good start against the Angels but otherwise has given up 10 earned over 10.0 innings in two starts. I’m not about to pick against Sale right now, so I’ll take the Red Sox for the Friday victory.
