Phoenix Mercury vs. San Antonio Stars - 5/19/17 WNBA Pick, Odds, and Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

The San Antonio Stars need a win here for their first victory of the season after an 0-2 start. The San Antonio Stars are averaging 69 points on 39.2 percent shooting and allowing 81 points on 43.5 percent shooting. Monique Currie is averaging 27 points and 5.5 rebounds while Isabelle Harrison is averaging 10.5 points and four rebounds. Erika de Souza is grabbing three rebounds and Alex Montgomery is dishing three assists. The San Antonio Stars are shooting 37.5 percent from beyond the arc and 74.5 percent from the free throw line. The San Antonio Stars are allowing 26.9 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 28 rebounds per game. The San Antonio Stars have lost eight straight home games.

The Mercury are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 vs. Western Conference, 1-4 ATS in their last 5 Friday games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Stars are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 vs. Western Conference, 7-15 ATS in their last 22 Friday games and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The Mercury are 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings and the under is 7-2 in the last 9 meetings.

The San Antonio Stars have been rocked in both of their games this season and that will continue until Kelsey Plum returns from an ankle injury and can get going. It's still a question if she makes her WNBA debut in this game, but I'm not sure it matters. The Phoenix Mercury have the depth and firepower needed to overwhelm a Stars team that's still not all that talented even with the star rookie. The Mercury have let me down many times dating back to last season, but I just don't trust San Antonio all that much, especially if Plum isn't on the court.
